The continued growth of electric vehicle exports reflects the optimization and upgrading of China's foreign trade

November 23, 2022

"As of the end of October, Great Wall Motor's overseas sales this year exceeded 130,000 units, up 18.55% year-on-year, especially for electric vehicles, which have become the new growth pole of our exports." Fu Xiaokang, vice president of Great Wall Motor Company Limited, said that Great Wall's footprint spans global markets such as Europe, ASEAN, the Middle East, South America, Oceania and South Africa, and the company has also established full-process vehicle production bases in Thailand and Brazil, and the globalization R&D system is gradually advancing.

It is understood that in the first half of 2022, global sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 4.22 million units, up 66.3% year-on-year, of which China's new energy vehicle sales accounted for more than 60% of the world, up 115% year-on-year.

China Association of Automobile Manufacturers recently disclosed that from January to October this year, China exported 499,000 new energy vehicles, an increase of 96.7% year-on-year. China's new energy vehicle production and sales have ranked first in the world for many years in a row, entering a period of full market expansion.

Since this year, China's major ports have witnessed the acceleration of China's electric vehicles and related industrial chain "going to sea": in the first three quarters, the export of electric vehicles in Tianjin grew 667.7% year-on-year; the export of electric passenger cars at Ningbo port surged 12.3 times; the combined export of electric passenger cars, lithium batteries and solar cells in Shanghai grew 143.3%. 143.3% ......

The European market has become the main new export destination for many Chinese domestic electric vehicles. According to the General Administration of Customs statistics, in the first half of 2022, the export of new energy passenger vehicles, the Western European market accounted for 34%, of which Belgium was the country with the largest number of new energy vehicles imported from China in the first half of the year.

Numerous Chinese electric vehicle independent brands have strengthened cooperation with world-renowned car companies and stormed into old car manufacturing powerhouses.

Recently, a large German car leasing company signed a cooperation agreement with BYD, which will purchase at least 100,000 electric cars in the next six years and put them into the German high-end car leasing market, and said it will explore further cooperation opportunities with BYD; previously, in July, BYD Japan held a brand launch in Tokyo, announcing its official entry into the Japanese passenger car market and debuting three models.

Bai Ming, a researcher at the Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, said that in the context of chip shortages and raw material price hikes that have led to pressure on global car companies, China's electric vehicles play a strong domestic auto industry chain supply chain, advanced intelligent network technology and other advantages, occupying an increasingly important position in the global new energy vehicle industry chain, which in turn has become a new fulcrum to pull China's foreign trade.

China's General Administration of Customs recently released the first 10 months of this year's foreign trade "report card" shows that the export of electric passenger cars doubled, lithium batteries, solar cells and other mechanical and electrical products exports grew by about 80%, reflecting the upgrading and optimization of China's export structure.

In recent years, Chinese power battery research and development enterprises, which are an important part of the electric vehicle industry chain, have been strengthening R&D innovation and breaking through technical bottlenecks, and are favored by their counterparts around the world. For example, the company has made a fast heating sheet for battery, which can be laminated with the battery to make electric vehicles have a "freezing heart".

With the support of this technology, Rongsheng Mengguoli has seen a huge increase in orders at home and abroad this year, and has won the favor of Ford, BAIC, FAW and other car companies.

Bai Ming said, green development is the common responsibility of all mankind, China is actively implementing the "double carbon" goal, making breakthroughs in the field of new energy vehicles, and going to overseas markets, cooperating deeply with other countries, and helping countries to reach carbon reduction goals in the field of transportation.
